Cheap Smiles Suffer: 4 Dangers of Discount Dental Implants

While dental implants are excellent tooth replacements, they often tend to be pricey. It’s to the point that many patients search for bargain versions instead of the standard, high-quality kind. That said, looking for posts with lower prices isn’t good; the dangers of discount dental implants are all too real. Choosing the cheaper option in this scenario would only lead to severe health issues. As proof of that fact, here are four common complications caused by discount dental implants.

Peri-Implantitis

Dental implants don’t get cavities or infections themselves, low price or not. However, “discount” kinds can indirectly cause peri-implantitis.

The issue is that low-price implants are usually offered by lax surgeons. These providers don’t maintain good hygiene during surgery, failing to sterilize their tools and equipment properly. This lack of cleanliness often results in peri-implantitis – an infection of the gums around your implant post(s). Such a condition will quickly make your implant fail, as well as trigger gum recession or even tooth loss.

Nerve Damage

Of course, infections aren’t the only danger of discount implants. These (relatively) cheap posts also carry a high risk of oral nerve damage.

It comes back to lax, inexperienced surgeons being the main source of discount implants. Such treatment providers are rarely ever skilled, so their placement work can get rather shoddy. That means they’ll likely damage your mouth’s sensitive nerves during the implant surgery. Should they do so, you may experience numbness in your lips or gums, a burning sensation, or worse.

Implant Breakage or Fracture

Sometimes the issue is the discount dental implant itself. Unlike a regular post, this kind suffers from breakage and fractures a lot.

You see, cheap dental implants rely on equally cheap materials. They don’t use the durable titanium and sturdy porcelain that the mainstream posts do. Given that fact, they’ll often fracture or break from your bite; they just can’t handle the force of regular chewing. Such breakage will then cause a treatment failure, requiring that you get a replacement post.

Integration Failure

In reality, discount dental implants don’t have a high success rate. Many suffer from integration failure soon after surgery and have to be replaced.

This issue stems from both the surgeon and the placed post. If someone offers implants cheaply, there’s a very good chance they won’t place the prosthetics correctly. They’ll instead make various mistakes due to a lack of training, experience, technology, and so on. The incorrectly placed post material can then worsen things, discouraging fusion with the surrounding bone tissue.

Instead of getting discount dental implants, opt for the quality kind instead. The latter are worth the higher price!
