If you’re frustrated by crooked or gapped teeth but are seeking a more comfortable and discreet treatment than traditional orthodontics, you might be a good candidate for Spark Clear Aligners.
This option uses transparent plastic trays that fit snugly over your arches to shift your teeth to their ideal positions. But you might hesitate to schedule a consultation if you’re unsure what to expect from the process. Continue reading to learn more about 4 steps involved in straightening your smile with Spark Clear Aligners!
Step #1: Consultation
The very first step to beginning any potential dental treatment, including these ‘invisible’ aligners, is to schedule an appointment with your provider. They’ll need to examine your condition, update your medical history, and discuss your goals and concerns to help determine whether this option is right for you.
Once your provider has verified that you’re a good candidate to proceed, they’ll move forward with making impressions.
Step #2: Making Impressions
Your Spark Clear Aligners are customized to fit like a glove over your arches, which requires making detailed impressions. Many dentists use contemporary digital impression systems for enhanced accuracy, which are loaded into special software to design your one-of-a-kind transparent trays.
Step #3: Receiving Your Trays
It can sometimes take a couple of weeks for your aligners to be delivered, and once they arrive, we’ll schedule you for a first placement appointment. This allows us to ensure that everything fits and functions as intended, as well as teach you how to insert, remove, and maintain the plastic trays.
Each pair must be worn for about 20 to 22 hours daily to keep your teeth from reverting to their starting positions. Then, after a week or two, you’ll be directed to switch to wearing the next set in your series to continue forward progress.
If your treatment plan requires attachments, like buttons, we’ll also use this visit to apply tooth-colored or clear composite resin to your enamel to provide an additional anchor for your trays.
Step #4: Follow-Up Appointments
You’ll be asked to schedule routine follow-up visits with your dentist to provide the next trays in your series and ensure that your teeth are moving at the anticipated rate to stay on track with your timeline. These appointments can often be as brief as 15 to 30 minutes, which gives enough time to check the condition of your teeth and gums and share the next aligners you’ll be asked to wear.
Many patients are done with clear aligners in as few as 12 to 18 months, though you may be asked to wear a retainer to maintain the results after completing this service.
