Floss Every Night Before Bed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember, brushing alone only cleans about 60% of the surface of your teeth. That\u2019s why it\u2019s so important to floss \u2013 even after a long day. Carefully and thoroughly cleaning between each tooth won\u2019t just help prevent cavities from developing between your teeth; it will also reduce your risk of gum disease!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Eat More Vegetables<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All too often, people focus on what they should cut out of their diet. This year, take a different approach: focus on what you can <em>add<\/em> to your diet. Apples, carrots, and celery are great examples because, in addition to being packed with nutrients, they remove food particles and other debris from your teeth!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Replace Your Toothbrush Every Quarter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s a common misconception that \u2013 as long as you brush your teeth \u2013 that\u2019s all that matters. The reality is that there are other factors that need to be considered. For example, you need to use a soft-bristled toothbrush and replace yours every quarter (<em>before <\/em>the bristles are old and frayed).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Schedule a Dental Checkup Biannually<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Routine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drgeorgetphilipdmd.com\/family-preventive-dentistry.html\">dental checkups and cleanings<\/a> are crucial for several reasons, including the fact that your dentist screens for oral cancer, tooth decay, and periodontal disease, and your dental hygienist removes built-up plaque and tartar. So, book an appointment every six months \u2013 your smile will thank you for it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Clean Your Tongue<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Like many patients, your oral hygiene regimen may focus almost exclusively on your teeth and gums. However, your tongue takes up a lot of real estate in your mouth, and it can quickly develop a sticky, white film if you don\u2019t clean it consistently.
